From the Globe and Mail:
Paul Martin will today propose a ban on most handguns in Canada, CanWest News Service has learned.
The Liberals say the thinking behind this crime strategy is that if no one is allowed to have a handgun in Canada, policing authorities will be in a better position to act on anyone who has a handgun or attempts to transport or sell a handgun.
The announcement will include the banning of all registered handguns in Canada.
So if you went to the trouble, spent the time, and paid the costs in order to register your handgun with the government, your reward will be to have that gun taken away.
Unless, in a bizarre twist, you own lots of guns. As a gun collector, a special exception will be made for you.
But if you only own one gun for pleasure or protection, the government is going to take it away. If you told the government you had that gun, of course.
If you didn't shame on you. That's a criminal act. And you better hope that the government doesn't catch you while it is confiscating all those other guns. Better lay low, because you'll stick out as the only person in the neighbourhood with a gun. Thanks to the government, you are certain of that now.
Hey, if you are the only person with a gun...
